Happy Birthday Daddy!

Today Lauren and I went to visit Daddy for lunch for his birthday. After lunch we went back to his office. Here she is playing with his bin of pistachios. She looks nice and comfy on his lap.

Here they are with the cake. Alas, I could not get Lauren to look at the camera...
We had a good time visiting with Daddy at work :)

Earlier in the day I was playing with her in her room. Here is a cute picture of her in her onesie moving along the crib rails.

And here she is all dressed and ready to go visit Daddy.

Crawling captured

As I promised here she is crawling on her tummy to her toy. It took a little coaxing since she was occupied with some other toy on the floor.

I am trying to teach her to be able to sit up on her own. It is a tough battle because she knows we will pull her up to a sit. When I get her to do it consistently I will post it.

Here is another picture of her that shows the hair that sticks up in the back from her double whorl. It doesn't know where to go so it sticks straight up. I think it is very cute, hopefully it will grow long enough so that it doesn't stick out when she is older.

February 25, 2008

Today was a full day for Lauren as she went out with the parents to go visiting family. She went to drop off a ham to Uncle Giff but he wasn't in the office today. She did get to visit with Uncle Clem and Uncle Cliff.

They went shopping afterwards and then they finally made it back to the house. Here she is playing on the rug with her pink jacket on. The pink jacket is from Uncle Kenny and she was sure warm in it.
Her hair is getting longer and a little more unruly as the wisps of hair do not seem to lay flat.

After work Eric and I went to have dinner with her and the Grandparents. She got to sit at the table with us and she was eating freshly steamed peas and baked potato.

Yes in the picture below she has a little potato on her chin.
She wasn't getting very full eating one pea here and there so we decided to feed her some applesauce that was left over from her morning meal. Toward the end of the feeding she was getting fussy so I was nom noming her fingers. She actually thinks its funny when I do this to her. I got her to squeal and laugh in delight. This encouraged her to finish her applesauce.

Grandpa has also been working on object names and permanence with her. On Friday 2/22 he showed me something that Lauren has learned. When I went to pick her up he said, "Come upstairs I want to show you something." Curiously I followed wondering what it could be. We went into the room and as he was holding her he would ask her, "Where's the clown?" And on cue she would look around the room and rest her eyes on the clown picture that is hanging on the wall. Grandpa would reaffirm, "Yes, there it is up there." We went downstairs and he showed me how she could find the clock and the flowers outside too. Here they are with the clown picture she recognizes.

When we got home and I was putting her to bed. I read her a book and asked her "Where's the clown?" She looked all over the room and couldn't find one so she just looked at me with a quizzical expression. There was one in the book I was reading but she looked rather disappointed she couldn't find the picture on the wall. I guess I really should just reinforce objects that exist in her line of sight...

Thanks to Grandpa for all the pictures!

Inching across the couch

We tell many people how Lauren likes to stand up so here she is inching her way across the couch to get the water bottle she likes to play with. We have Daddy standing behind her to catch her if she falls. She usually lands on her bum but one can never be too careful.

Yes, Daddy Eric picks some lint out of her hair in the video. I think its funny.

She has been inching across the couch for a while now. Now the new trick is to hold the couch with one hand and pick up or grab something with the other hand. She is getting pretty good at holding herself up with one hand. We have been teaching her how to ease down in to a sit to get things off the floor when she is standing with one hand. She is still a bit wobbly but she is getting the concept.

With Grandpa and Grandma's help Lauren is crawling on her tummy. One of her arms gets stuck or she doesn't know what to do with it yet, but she gets to where she wants to. One of these days it will click. I will try to get a video of it tomorrow to post.

A visit from Sophie

Lauren's friend Sophie came to visit yesterday so they decided to play with a new toy Lauren got yesterday. The toy has music and lights and a big mirror.

It took a while for Sophie to warm up but when she finally did she explored the buttons on the toy.

Lauren decided to see what the top of Sophie's head felt like.
Here she is playing by herself.
I don't know if vanity starts at this early age but she definitely likes looking at herself in the mirror.

She likes looking in mirrors in general. She will sometimes babble and laugh at her image when you bring her to a mirror.

And I had to put this on here because I always post the smiley happy Lauren. And though she is not sad in this picture this is the face she makes when she is frustrated. I still think she is cute!

When are those teeth gonna come in...

If you have ever watched Lauren, one thing you will notice is that when she wants something she concentrates really hard on it. Eric was playing with her and showed her a little towel that was on the couch.

She stared so hard at her object.. making sure it wouldn't run away and hide.

Today we noticed that she is subconsciously sticking out her tongue. She does it quite often when she is concentrating on doing something. So Eric tried to get a picture of it by encouraging her to try and reach the towel on the couch. He did get a shot of it here but there were many attempts at getting just the right picture. He settled for this one but he will probably try again tomorrow.

We think the appearance of the tongue is related to the teeth that are getting to sprout out of her gums. If you open the picture below in another window and look closely at the lower gums you can see the two teeth getting ready to come out.

Toys and Such

We went down to San Diego this weekend to visit Grandpa Ben for his 66th Birthday. Happy Birthday Grandpa!! Since he was sick he didn't get to hold her so I have no pictures of them close together. I will get the Birthday cake shot with all the children and Grandpa Ben from my sisters to post.

One of the things people always tell us is that kitchen stuff makes great toys. Here she is playing with a whisk.
Here she is showing Auntie Ramona her joy in the new toy:

The trip back up here was tiring and around her bedtime so she decided to fall asleep in her seat.
And yes those are toes peeking out from underneath the blanket. The plane was unusually warm so she was only in her longsleeve onesie. She was kind of squeally on the plane because of the warmth but it didn't deter her from talking to the passengers in the row behind us. She kept wanting to peer over the seat and talk to them. She would smile and babble at them throughout the flight.

She took a long nap this morning but you never know who or what is going to pounce on you...

Do Pink Bunnies take baths?

This little one does.
This picture was right after her bath. Thanks Uncle Art for the cute bunny towel.

She needed a bath after the day she had eating prunes!

Grandma says she liked the prunes. Hopefully more ended up in her tummy than on her face.

Learning to ...

I put her in her crib to do things around her room and guess what she did:

Yes, she is pulling herself up to stand. Crazy how fast she learns things. Sorry about the smudge in the upper left corner. She licked the camera...

7 months old

Yesterday we went out with some family to celebrate Chinese New Year. Thanks Auntie Tin for inviting us to lunch so we could spend some time with Tai Tai and the rest of the family. It was good to see Malia and Kailani. (and the rest of the relatives of course)

Lauren turned 7 months old today, and my how she has grown. Her personality and vocal chords are showing themselves. She has started solids and likes sweet potatoes, carrots, bananas, and pears. She seems indifferent to apples and peas. She does not like cereal unless it is mixed into something else. And she definitely didn't like peaches. She doesn't seem to like to eat a lot of solid food but we will keep trying.

Here she is on the gorilla and burly bear scale.

Oh here are some pictures of her in the swing she used to be in a lot when she was smaller/younger. She doesn't spend any time in the swing any more because she can grab the animals and pull them, and she tends to squirm a lot. No more falling asleep in this contraption.

February 8, 2008

We went out to tahoe last weekend and brought Lauren with us. I do not have any pictures of her in the snow but I do have a couple of pics of her with my sisters. My sister Anne has some pictures on her camera and I will try to get them from her and post them.

Here Lauren is trying on Auntie Anne's snowboard. Don't you just love those folds in her legs!
Here is Auntie Jan posing with her. The pink long sleeve "year of the pig" onesie is from Adrienne.

I was able to catch some candid shots of her playing on the floor this past week. She looks like she is ready to crawl but alas she likes to just roll around the living room.

Sophie and Hannah came for a visit today so we took a picture of the three of them side by side:
Gone are the days where Lauren was much bigger. I like the pic above because Lauren and Han are cheesing it and Sophie is somewhat scared, we don't know why...

Here Lauren is getting into mischief again by trying to grab both Hannah and Sophie's bibs at the same time.
